Fashion Indie: Why It's So Busy, Current And A Whole Lot Of Fun

LOOKBOOKS.com recently sat down with Fashion Indie’s editor-in-chief Daniel Saynt. We learned that Fashion Indie is busy, current, and a whole lot of fun. Where, when and why was Fashion Indie started? How did it come about?New York, April 2005ish, ‘cause we really liked throwing fashion parties.Basically, Fashion Indie started as an events company for young designers in the city. We started the site to talk about our events on FashionIndie.com and that quickly grew so we began to put more focus on it.We printed a magazine two years ago but we're pretty much on the whole "Print is Dead" bandwagon and don't think it's how fashion peeps will be getting their daily dose of couture in the next couple of years. What features of LookBooks.com do you use to help benefit Fashion Indie? We regularly check the site for great style picks for our Street Heroes section. Your members are pretty…What is the latest fashion trend you are seeing?Going braless if you have no tits, printed denim, bowl cuts for men, and funky oxfords. Also loving shoulder jewelry and mimicking the half shaved head look that Jethro Cave made famous. What separates Fashion Indie from all the other fashion sites? We're pretty jaded. That whole, "Oh My F*cking God, I Work In FASHION!!!" attitude has faded and now we just look at sh*t like it needs to get done. Actually, maybe that's just me. No, the big difference is that we thoroughly enjoy cursing, drinking and smoking like sailors and a lot of that's reflected in our writing. Actually, that's definitely just me. Do you have a company motto? What do you want readers / visitors to take away from visiting your site? There are a couple that circulate the office:“Sex, Drugs & Haute Couture”“You Smell Like Gucci, Let's Be Friends”“If It's Free We'll Drink It"We really want our readers to never leave us, but if they must we want them to take away one of our many widgets which are all available here: http://fashionindie.com/fashion-indie-widgets/ or at least join us on www.Twitter.com/fashionindie or CultIndie.com. And that my friends is called a plug. Tell us about some exciting things coming up for you and the company. We just got a new fax machine and everyone’s getting a beeper next week! Actually we're working on launching a blogger network at Sayntly.com. We're also launching an "I Heart FashionIndie" campaign to help us raise $100,000 in social funding from our fans. Plus, we're hosting a blogger lounge for Fashion Week and sponsoring the events of some of our favorite designers. Plus, we're launching a new video series on Youtube, trying to get 1,000,000 Twitter followers, and are launching an online store. So basically, we're pretty busy.
