Let’s put it this way: A year ago Justin Chung moved to NYC hoping to find some work. Last month he travelled to the world’s most renowned men’s trade show, Pitti Uomo, in Florence Italy to shoot some of the world’s most renowned men of fashion, along side some of the world’s most renowned photographers, like Tommy Ton. Having worked with numerous designers including Mark McNairy and Ovadia & Sons, publications such as GQ, and celebs like Alexa Chung, Justin is quickly becoming a staple in the fashion community. We asked him to share some thoughts and shots with us midway through NYFW and almost a year after he landed his first gig in NYC. – Marisa, thesigother.com

Did you always know you wanted to be a photographer?I was always passionate about art and photography since I was young. The thought never was considered while I pursuing pre-med in college; however, things changed the summer after when I got my first camera.

How did you get started here in NYC?I started by working with the modeling agencies. One opportunity lead to another, and working with NY-based talent really allowed me to push my work.

What kind of project do you want to do next?I would love to work on more travel-based storiesI had such a great experience traveling to Florence with my friends.

What advice would you give to photographers looking to break into fashion?I’d suggest to remember to shoot from the heart and continue to push your work.
