Every woman knows the perfect look is incomplete without “the conversation piece”. For some women its jewelry and for others it’s shoes, for Brett Heyman of Edie Parker it was the evening clutch. Noticing a lack of variety in the market of evening bags, the former Director of PR for Gucci fell in love with that iconic vintage acrylic silhouette made popular in the 1950’s and 60’s and developed a line that is the perfect combination of history and modernism.  With “creamy surfaces and gem flaked textures”, Edie Parker clutches harken back to those dazzling little numbers found on table tops from El Morocco to Maxim’s.

What inspired you to start the line?

I have always collected vintage bags but they are increasingly hard to find in good condition especially the  really special ones which are impossible to find! While I was on maternity leave with my daughter, Edie, I decided to try to remake the bags for myself. I had no intention of selling them but one thing led to another and I never went back to work.

When designing, where do you look for inspiration?

Everywhere! From the vintage bags themselves to the period during which they were made to photography and textile books.

I’ve seen Stacey Bendet from Alice and Olivia tweeting pictures of your bags or posting them on her Tumblr, how has the reception within the industry been to such a unique style of evening bags?

So far so good. Options for evening bags are somewhat limited and my line offers a unique variety with distinctive detailing- such as the Lara clutch with glow in the dark ends and mirrors included in every style.

How does your personal style tie into your design aesthetic?

From both a design perspective and a practical one, I always think about what I would wear and also what I need to fit in my purse when I go out.

If you could collaborate with anyone who would it be?

So many people! But if this is a fantasy and I can pick anyone, I would say Yves Saint Laurent.

Beautiful clutches but even if you aren't a fashionista, the design is so impecable that you'll want to display it on a shelf like a work of art.  Love it so much I made it a "gift of the day" on the grifties.com site!
