Come one! Come all! Come gay! Come straight! Just come to what will be most certainly NYC’s biggest celebration yet during Pride Week 2012 (June 18 – 24) at the city’s first pop-up hotel – Lords Hotel NYC. Based in the Hotel on Rivington, the Lords South Beach staff will be taking over for the full week. Meander past the large inflatable white polar bear in the lobby and take part in what is sure to be a host of parties that would make Marie Antoinette and her posse look positively quaint. Founder and innovative hotelier of Lords South Beach, Brian Gorman gave us a quick preview of what to expect during their hotel takeover for Pride 2012.
What was the inspiration to create a pop-up hotel in NYC?
Here at Lords, we think of ourselves as showing the best the gay community has to offer. What better way to do that than by hosting the first-ever pop-up hotel during New York City Pride? We are looking forward to creating a fun and unique experience for our guests in New York, just like we've done in South Beach.
What drew you to work with the Hotel on Rivington?
The Rivington is a cool brand in a cool neighborhood - I knew it would be a good match for Lords.
What dates will you be taking over the hotel?
June 18-24
Tell us about some of the special events you are hosting during Pride Week.
It's going to be like gay summer camp - we have a whole itinerary of events planned. On Friday night, June 23, we'll be bringing our Penthouse series to NYC with Proud To Party, which is being held in the Penthouse at Hotel on Rivington. DJ Vito Fun will be spinning and there is an open Kanon Organic Vodka bar from 9-10pm. On Saturday, we are hosting the Proud to Be Creative brunch with OUT Magazine at CO-OP Food & Drink at Hotel on Rivington. There will be music by Justin Dawson and a silent auction to benefit the Hetrick-Martin Institute. Later that day, we're the host hotel for The Day Party, which is being put on by Josh Wood Productions at Pier 83, and is featuring Grammy winning DJ/producer Dave Aude and Brazil's DJ Ana Paula.
Describe the Lords South Beach experience – what can guests expect when they check in?
Our staff is going to be around twenty-four hours a day; we’re bringing out bartenders, promoters, staff, and DJ’s to create the relaxed atmosphere that Lords South Beach has captured. The artist who did our lobby has donated a piece, and our mascot - the polar bear from our lobby in South Beach - is coming too.
