Not many people are able to approach their work with the allure of an artist like  MUA Denise Markey . A New Yorker through and through, Markey mixed the right amount of determination and creativity to become one of the most sought after artists within the beauty and fashion industry. After a chance encounter with acclaimed photographer Steven Meisel, Markey’s work was being featured on the covers of Vogue magazine and soon enough her she would be working alongside legends such as Patrick Demarchelier, Annie Leibovitz, Richard  Burbridge and the rest was history.

Markey has been able to create a most flourishing career not only with her remarkable talent, yet by keeping a professional yet amiable character. Her magic has touched the faces of industry beauties such as Heidi Klum, Karolina Kurkova and Linda Evangelista and has been featured in campaigns for leading beauty companies such as Revlon Clinique as well as in editorials for publications such as Vanity Fair, Elle  and Bazaar.

Here Markey takes a minute to share with us her take on optimism and color, the streets of NYC and old movies.

What color is inspiring you the most now?

Poppy bright red/yellow tone lip colors such as Nars Babe lip gloss as well as bright candy pink lipstick colors.

Where or how will you feature these discoveries in your work?

Instead of most of the focus going to the eyes, it is refreshing to see bright popping colors on the lips. These colors can be paired with a strong eye makeup without looking too heavy  being too heavy .

What is the story behind this color and what inspired you to start using it ?

Bright colors were seen a lot at fashion shows and eventually made its was to the red carpets. I was inspired by the bright freshness that these colors brought to the overall look. Its brings out a playful and almost happy feel to any look.

Where do you look for inspiration?

Just taking a stroll through the streets of NYC serves as a source of inspiration.

When you have artists block how do you get your creative juices flowing?

Grazing through art books and watching old movies always gets my juices flowing.

Any beauty tips?

If you find these colors to be intimidating try them in a sheer formula or gloss.
