Louis Vuitton Spring Summer 2010 Show
If I had to pick one word to describe the Louis Vuitton Spring 2010 RTW collection it would be overwhelming. There was such a vast variety of wonderful ideas, colors and patterns walking down the runway that one might have been a little confused. It was especially interesting that all the models were wearing humungous afro-wigs some of which were decorated with little bows in almost any color one might think of. Afros decorated with bows? Yes!In order to understand the bows in combination with afro-wigs one might have to have more of an image of the collection as a whole. The clothes themselves are everything but traditional! It is hard to pinpoint where the designer might have drawn his inspiration from when he was creating them. At first sight the clothing is reminiscent of a modern Japanese teenager, at second sight there are sportswear elements and at third sight rudiments of a traditional Boy Scout outfit can be discovered such as multicolored fur tails dangling off bright leather handbags! If one imagines all of that, adds some army elements to the mix and combines it with furry sandals Louis Vuitton Spring 2010 is the result. Hence the word overwhelming.Creative director at Louis Vuitton Marc Jacobs described his collection as being "about travelers—the movement that came after punk. Then we were thinking about hiking, trekking, and then denim and parkas—city utilitarianism." The designer’s personal description of the collection somehow pulls all of the different inspirational influences seen on the runway together. Suddenly one can understand what he is trying to tell us with this collection. It’s about globalization. If one thinks about traveling and globalization afro-wigs, fringed sandals, blazers with army-like pockets and light blue bows begin to make sense together.Even though at first sight this modern, candy-like and colorful collection might be overwhelming to some, Louis Vuitton seems to have created a collection, which is only appropriate for the world that we currently live in. When there are so many cultures and colors to be inspired by, why should a collection refrain to one or two inspirational influences? In the end who cares where it came from anyhow… Fact is that I want one of those dangly fur tails!
