Forte Fashion Show Benefitting Gilda's Club NYC
‘Forte’ was a fashion show to benefit Gilda’s Club New York City, which creates communities of free support for anyone living with cancer. The event was sponsored by Seam Collective, an alliance of women dedicated to promoting the advancement of female fashion designers. Hence all of the collections showcased were made by female fashion designers. The designers included Project Runway’s Kenley Collins, Elizabeth Rynish, Sheila Frank and Marissa Erskine. All of them are up and coming, young and dynamic fashion designers. The most striking collections were by Kenley Collins and Marissa Erskine. Kenley’s collection was an homage to the 20’s. There was a lot of navy and white including an adorable navy bathing suit and a wonderful evening gown. There were cocktail dresses too, most of which reached below the knee and were somewhat reminiscent of a summer day on the beach in the Hamptons during the 1920’s. All of that red lipstick also contributed a fare share to the overall 1920’s feel of the collection.Marissa on the other hand showed a much darker collection. The base of most of her looks was black combined with either bright pink or green. One of her most beautiful pieces was a silky black top with pink ‘flower petals’ all over it. The ‘flower petals’ were pieces of pink and black fabric cut in the shape of a flower petal sowed onto the base top in a way that made the whole piece look incredible.Overall it was a great show for a beautiful cause. Here's a look of some of the pictures I took that night. - Catharina Duval de Navarre
