Blogger Spotlight: Wanderlust

When Emily and Abigail moved to opposite ends of the East Coast, fashion kept them together. The long-time friends launched Wanderlust to share their newfound styles with each other and the world. Now that both live in New York City, the fashionistas are making waves in the blog-o-sphere.
Recently I shot some interview questions in Emily and Abigail's direction to try and peek inside the heads of the stylish pair. Here's what the Wanderlust girls had to say...
You clearly have a fun and sophisticated style, fashion-wise. What influenced your style growing up? Or were you just born with good fashion sense?
We can’t claim we were born with it, but we’ve always worn what we wanted to wear (i.e. zebra pants in Junior High.) We don’t look to mimic someone else’s style. We let our curiosities inspire us.
What are some tips you might have for other up and coming style bloggers who want to get to your same level? What's important to keep in mind?
Blogging is about individuality, and presenting something unique. It’s also important to be involved, and to reach out. Don’t wait for someone to give you an opportunity, create it on your own.
The photography on your blog is very original and often beautiful. Who's your photographer and how did you make the connection?
Our photographer happens to be our closest friend. We have always treasured our aesthetic and the way it defines us, so finding Scott who not only shares that aesthetic but can also capture it was miraculous.
In your opinion, what are the top three style blogs out there in the blogosphere today?
In no particular order…
1. Style by Kling
2. Victoria Törnegren
3. Fashion Toast
What would you like to be doing 5 years down the road?
The beauty of “wanderlust” is to avoid the paved road ahead, and discover the unbeaten path. The inability to predict even the next five days is what drives us in this industry. As for the next five years, we can only hope to be fully submerged in this unpredictable abyss.
Style bloggers present a new day in fashion -- they're getting front row seats at fashion shows. Some are now just as celebrated as designers. How do you see style blogging further changing the fashion industry, as both continue to evolve?
Style blogging revolves around the concept of now, and has become a substitute for monthly subscriptions. It has broken down the dictatorship of the fashion industry, and created a world where a 12-year-old fashion guru can sit front row next to Anna Wintour. Blogging has given everybody a back-stage pass to what was once a highly exclusive industry, whether it be tuning in to a live stream runway show in New York, or keeping up with street style in Tokyo.
How would you define your own style? And... what's your favorite pieces in your own closet at home?
An eclectic mix of past and present trends haunts our style. A few of our favorite pieces include an Alexander Wang leather overall skirt, vintage Hermès riding pants, and pretty much anything black or lacey.
