• Diane von Furstenberg was hospitalized after a rogue Brazilian skier crashed into the famed designer on an Aspen skiing trip with her husband. "Some Brazilian man, who could not ski, lost control and went straight at me, hitting me badly on my face and ribs with his camera. I went to the emergency room and then flew to UCLA. I look like Mike Tyson on his worst fight,” said Furstenberg. (Vogue)

• Retail theft continues to soar, as estimates place annual losses at approximately $60 million. One FBI spokesman says retail crime figures could actually be much higher due to data collection disparities. The FBI has become increasingly interested in retail theft since it’s often a gateway offense to larger crimes. (WWD)

• French stylist Laurence Renard was killed in a tragic rush-hour accident Monday night when a dump truck ran over her body in New York’s Upper East Side. The 35-year-old stylist was struck crossing 90th Street just outside her building when she was fatally injured. The driver, 23-year old Diego Tapia-Ulloa of Newark, was arrested for not having a valid driver’s license.  (NYDN)

• Prada staged a fashion show in Beijing in attempts to woo Chinese luxury shoppers on Saturday. Prada had previously debuted its Spring 2011 collection in its home country of Italy, but the brand wanted to ensure China’s elite saw their latest fashion. Luxury goods in China soared 20 percent, or $12.1 billion, in 2009 according to sources.  (WSJ)

• Kenneth Cole has recruited former Li & Fung vice president Carol Massoni to join as president of consumer direct in early February, overseeing the company’s e-commerce and outlet stores. (WWD)

• A look at the latest spring/summer 2011 couture shows to hit the runways, told through the eyes of the New York Times’ Suzy Menkes: Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel and Giorgio Armani for Armani Prive. (NYT)

• Carine Roitfeld is on her way out French Vogue’s door, and Emmanuelle Alt has taken her spot as editor. Alt was seen front row in the first days of the season's couture show unveilings. Where was Roitfeld? (DFR)

    Terrible news on both accounts. Hoping for a speedy recovery for DVF and that is devastating news to hear about Laurence Renard. Horrible, such a young age too :(

    OMGosh I feel like such an idiot! I didn't read through everything, that's horrible news! OMGosh I am going to delete that, I need to read through stuff and not just sim through it! I hope her family is fine and DVF is okay now. I only read the first paragraph because of the headline and the last one. Yikes! OMGosh I hope their family is okay, that is such horrible horrible news!!!!
