When Miuccia Prada says she's trying to do "minimal baroque" for Spring 2011, don't expect a parade of simple neutrals; with references from Carmen Miranda to hospital scrubs to the Folies Bergère, Prada instead envisions a bold, escapist, tropical explosion of color.

The womanly silhouettes presented for fall 2010 came to a ridiculously sublime, yet lovable, conclusion in modest dresses, constructed from practical Japanese cotton, with an hourglass exaggerated by a kooky, monkey-in-the-jungle pattern. Gold and silver baroque swirls accentuated the waist and hips when paired with bright, primary color stripes; it was as if Fall 2010's va-va-voom housewife took a wild trip to Havana, fox furs, sombreros, and luxe, fringey sundresses in tow. The 1930's fingerwaves and graphic makeup (not to mention Miuccia's own plastic banana earings) recalled Jazz Age great Josephine Baker if she decided to become the world's sultriest flight attendant, as seen in curvy, boldly striped skirt suits. Even the finale group of little black dresses, paired with a playful statement shoe--in this case, a vibrantly colored platform sneaker, had a bit of rhumba flair.

It's a dizzying parade of color, pattern, and historical allusions that, under Prada's chic, ultimately practical hand, all came together. If this is Miuccia's vision of tropical paradise, book our vacations now.

mm I love the illusions that the structure and stripes make, like on 8, 13, and 30...

I really dislike this collection. I don't understand how Miuccia, who created such flattering and womanly collection for fall, could think that these stiff rounded shoulders would look good on any woman. These silhouettes are aweful. The blue one actually looks like scrubs.  It's only towards the end when the leaner black looks came out that I actually appreciated some pieces.

I would have to agree with you Liz on some of the pieces. Some I like way more than others and it is the figure flattering ones.... I didn't understand the make/silhouettes of the others, not flattering at all..... Nice concept but nothing that would look right on my body/face type.
