Marc Jacobs Launches a Playful e-Commerce Site
Finally, Marc Jacobs launched its long-awaited e-commerce site late last night--and it's absolutely adorable and quirky.
The site mixes illustration with photography and video; there are cute, cartoony illustrations of actual sales people dressed head-to-toe in Marc Jacobs, and their outfits and identities will change over time. The homepage is a drawing of the MJ storefront, featuring actual runway videos playing in the windows. Click through, and you enter a space designed as an all-Marc department store, complete with Marc Jacobs, Marc by Marc Jacobs, and Little Marc Jacobs--complete with teddy bears and penguins. See? Online shopping is an adventure!
Not everything is available online; the lower-priced accessories found in Marc's Bleecker Street store aren't available for purchase, although you can take a peek at their lookbooks. As James Gardner, founder and chief executive officer of Createthe Group (the online design firm that's worked with Marc Jacobs since 2004), told WWD, the main objective was to "bring alive the store. It's going back to the roots of the Marc Jacobs brand, which is to be fun, entertaining, engaging and cool."
Indeed, whether you're buying a $30 perfume or an $8,000 alpaca fur coat, you'll be sure to have a good time!

These characters are incredible. I love it.
This is so cool and fun.
Very well thought out.
Kind of feels like a fun game when browsing the store. But in the end, I'd much rather do the shopping via a more traditional user interface.
What a great way to personalize a website. Great for new visitors.
I check it out it looks good and very much of a personal way to shop because of the way the layout looks like a game application or paper doll look :)
