Guess Inc.'s Teenage Daughter Designs For a Cause

Guess Inc. has introduced a new Marciano to the family business--and all for a good cause. Ella Marciano, the 16-year-old daughter of CEO and vice chairman Paul Marciano, has designed a t-shirt to benefit Sojourn Services for Battered Women and Their Children.
Ella toured Sojourn's shelters with her mother, Kymberly Marciano-Strauss, while interning for Guess Inc.'s PR department last summer; she designed a white tank top printed with a purple heart formed by the words hope, love, courage, strength, community, and empower. "I started thinking about words that are powerful, that could send a message," Ella, a high-school junior, told WWD. "All the words are shaped like a heart, which is the symbol of love, which I think it's great. At the same time, the design has to appeal to the Guess girl...Even if someone doesn't know this cause, they'd buy this shirt because it's an attractive shirt."
She sure sounds industry-savvy already! Of course, Ella already has experience creating charitable tees for Guess; she designed tops when she was only 7 to benefit victims of the 9/11 terror attacks. The $24 top for Sojourn Services will be available next month on Guess.com and stores in California and Las Vegas. She definitely wants to continue designing for a cause--"I would love to make charitable items for Guess. It's something I want to do in the future."
You know what they say: charity begins at home--and in the family business too!
